Info
A grease trap removes grease (vegetable and animal fat) from the
wastewater. In the following circumstances the installation of a
grease trap may be necessary:
- Individual dwellings: in order to prevent blockage of the pipes
if the wastewater treatment system used is located too far from the
kitchen.
- In restaurants, hotels, bars, schools, butchers, caterers... In
these cases, a grease trap is always required.
The volume of the grease trap depends on the flow rate
discharged, as well as on the temperature of the water and the
contamination load. Please contact our technical service in order
to determine which type of grease trap would be best for you.
For grease traps two versions exist with sludge collector:
- Built-in sludge collector: this type has a partition in the
tank allowing the first compartment to function as a sludge
collector (VVS).
- Built-on sludge collector: in this case a tank has been
installed befor the grease trap. The big advantage is that
installation of this type is easier and quicker than the
installation of the type with a built-in sludge collector
(VVAS).
Operations
The greasy water from the kitchen and/or the dishwasher enters
the tank by means of an anti-splash device.
The grease will separate from the water for two reasons:
- The density of grease is lower than the density of water, so it
floats to the surface.
- The grease solidifies once it enters into contact with the cold
water of the grease trap.
The grease collects on the surface of the water. At the outlet
of the installation a baffle is installed to prevent the discharge
of grease.
